YOUNG RANGERS - Introduction to Hedgelaying
Overview
This week we'll be sharpening up our billhooks to learn key skills in managing hedgerows the tradional way, long before mechanisation and possibly first practiced in Roman times!
Hedgelaying is almost an art, as it is a craft, and a fun group activity. During the day, you'll learn about pleaching, staking and binding a hedge along with how (and why) this form of management helps gives hedegerow wildlife a boost.
We'll be hosted in the grounds of the beautiful writers retreat, The Hurst, where staff have kindly offered us a warming bowl of bread and soup.
But please bring an extra bite-sized snack to keep the energy levels up, and your normal warm workwear.
Toilets and shelter are availble on site.
