Meet and hear from existing young trustees and charity leaders across Yorkshire to find out about what young trustees are all about.

About this event

Becoming, or recruiting, a young trustee can seem a challenge. But it doesn’t have to be an impossible one. Join us to meet and hear from existing young trustees and charity leaders across Yorkshire to find out about what young trustees are all about and ask your own questions.

If you’re an aspiring trustee, find out what being a trustee involves, how to find opportunities and how it could benefit you.

If you’re a charity leader, find out what you need to consider to attract younger trustees, what aspiring trustees are looking for and what support is out there to help you recruit.

Our panel includes:

  • Erin Fuller, Trustee, Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation
  • Mphango Simwaka, Deputy Chair Leeds Beckett Student Union and Trustee Unipol Student Housing Charity
  • Haris Ahmed, Trustee, Common Wealth Theatre Company
  • Devan Witter, Trustee of The Neighbourhood Network (Humberside) and Market Weighton Youth Action Group
  • Sarah Weichardt, Charity Manager, The Neighbourhood Network (Humberside)

Hosted by Rodolfo Barradas, Young Trustees Movement Ambassador for Yorkshire and The Humber. Rodolfo is also a trustee of Freedom Studios theatre company in Bradford and East Street Arts in Leeds.

About the panel:

Erin Fuller has worked in the third sector for a number of years and is currently a Fundraising Officer at LEEDS 2023. Before this, she worked at local grant-making organisation, Leeds Community Foundation, where she developed a passion for equitable grant-making and connecting people to distribute funds and benefit communities. Erin is a Beyond Suffrage alumni and recently joined the board of Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to continue working with a grant-making organisation whilst actively being involved in the charity's governance.

Mphango Simwaka (also known as Pango) has been a student trustee since 2019. Previously the Welfare and Community Officer, she is now the Union Affairs Officer at Leeds Beckett Student Union where she is the deputy chair of the Board of Trustees. Along side this, she is also a Trustee at Unipol Student Housing Charity and a Governor at Leeds Beckett University.

Haris Ahmed is a poet and professional storyteller from Bradford. His poetry has been published in multiple anthologies and his first collection ‘isit’ is due to be released soon. Hatis joined Common Wealth as a trustee in 2021 after being part of the company’s Speakers’ Conner for several years.

Devan Witter has volunteered from an early age and started his own anti-bullying project and campaign aged 15. He now works for East Riding Voluntary Action Services , supporting individuals and organisations to engage with training, volunteering and social action opportunities across the region.

As a previous school governor, resident volunteer and trustee of her local football club, Sarah Weichardt has a wealth of experience when it comes to volunteering and getting involved in the community sector. Sarah now encourages others to get involved through her work at the Neighbourhood Network and benefits from the skills a trustee can offer in her current role.
