Description

Your Business and the Law

Saturday, 17 March, Leeds Trinity University

Do you know your civil litigation from corporate liability? Are you comfortable handling a legal business dispute? Are you fully clued up on employee contracts, entitlements and rights? Do you know how to create a legally binding contract?

As a business owner, you must have an understanding of all of these issues – but we understand that getting legal advice can be expensive.

That’s why, through the Ad:Venture programme (which supports new and young businesses in the Leeds City Region), we are using our expertise in Business Management to offer a free workshop to introduce the legal framework for business.

What’s happening?

On Saturday 17 March 2018, join Andy Gilliland for a free, practical workshop, designed to introduce key legislation and case law, including:

The UK Courts and Regulatory System – understand how the county court system works for debt recovery, civil litigation and corporate liability;
Contract Law and Tort – creating a valid contract, legally changing contacts, handling contract disputes and internet trading;
UK Consumer Protection Legislation – learn more about the rules which govern a businesses’ legal relationship with its customers, the rights of buyers and sellers, and the rights as a business customer;
Employment Law – discussion around contracts of employment, employee entitlements and employer rights; and
Health and Safety – key legal duties owed by employers and businesses to staff, customers and the public.

Andrew Gilliland Biography: Andy trained in Audit, Accounting and Tax planning and worked for a ‘top 4’ Management Consultancy company, specialising in Top and Bottom line growth and business development. Later, as managing partner of a corporate financial services provider, he specialised in working with a range of clients on new business finance, start-up and growth. After moving to Leeds Trinity University to teach Accounting and Finance he maintained an interest in entrepreneurship, business growth and development, working with the Northern Leadership Academy, Business Link and the Regional Development Agency on projects to deliver advice and assistance to a range of businesses across the North of England.
