About this event

Two art sessions about you and your ideas. Bring your idea; either something you want to see, or something you want to share with the world. Or find it with us, figure out what you want to either give or receive from art.

Feel free to attend just one or both of the classes, and don't feel any pressure to stay for the entire session if you don't want to.

Our focus will be on sketching first, and going home with an idea to develop for the next lesson, but I'll bring materials to allow for colour too.

You're probably thinking now: "What do I want?" We'll spend an evening getting these ideas to paper and ironing them out into something that you want to nurture, and then working them into something more complete at the next session.

If this proves productive, it would be good to turn it into a regular event, where YOUR ideas are developed, tested, and brought to life meaningfully. Maybe a few party trick "art techniques" coming in, but the focus being personal artistic development. Let's bring your ideas to life.

Donation:

There's an optional donation to go towards the running costs of the classes - this stops people booking up all the free tickets then not showing up! Eventbrite requires £1 to be entered in the box but we can refund that in cash when you attend the class, or you can put it towards a cup of tea from the kitchen :)

Organized by

Sketchy Beats is a not-for-profit arts space on Great Junction Street, Leith. It's an open platform for creatives of any kind to use and share their ideas with the public. The space is designed to be affordable and accessible to everyone - people who have never organised events before, musicians who have never played outside their own bedroom, artists who have never exhibited before. It aims to be a place where creativity brings the community together, without money being an obstacle.

Everything in the space is donation-based. If you want a cup of tea or coffee, you can help yourself and leave a small donation. If you want to bring your own alcohol, just leave a donation for corkage. If you want to organise your own event, it's free to book, we just ask for a donation from each person who comes in. If you are interested in booking the space for your own event, workshop, meet-up or rehearsal, send us a message!
