Event description

Description

Have you been thinking of creating a website to showcase yourself? Maybe you want to have a portfolio of your work, a blog or just a presentation of yourself that’s more personal than a LinkedIn profile? You started looking around but were quickly overwhelmed with all the options and effort to learn how to set things up? Then this is the workshop for you!

We will quickly discuss why having your own website is a good thing and how you can leverage it to further your career. But we will also briefly consider other methods of getting your message out, such as managed blog services and email. We shall then look at some of the available options for creating websites and getting them online. We will discuss what is important to think of when adapting these to your personal needs, such as hosting the website, buying your own domain name and prices of each. The organiser will show the workflow of their preferred tool(s).

If time allows, the organiser will then guide each participant to potential other options, depending on their needs and goals.

What do participants need to bring?

No particular software required, participants only need laptops to look up the tools mentioned.

Workshop Organiser: Henrik Siljebråt

Before doing a PhD, Henrik was in IT and DevOps; configuring servers and launching services for internal and external needs. He’s a bit of a nerd when it comes to these things and will happily tell you of the multiple SSH tunnels he has set up to access things on servers across the world as if they were running locally.
