The venue for our upcoming Your Party Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Get Together has changed.

The response so far has been phenomenal — so phenomenal, in fact, that we’ve had to move to a bigger venue to fit everyone in! 🙌

This huge level of interest shows just how much appetite there is for a new kind of politics — one built on hope, solidarity, and real change.

Let’s fill this bigger room with energy, ideas, and determination. ✊

Many of us in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire, have signed up to the new left party, launched by Jeremy Corbyn MP and Zarah Sultana MP, which at the moment is using the name Your Party.

This is an exciting and necessary development in politics in Britain - given the awful record of Starmer’s Labour Government. Which has chosen to continue the austerity policies and attacks on working people of previous Tory regimes. Some of these attacks go further and deeper than the Tories, such as the cuts to disability benefits.

Worse still, Starmer’s echoing of Enoch Powell’s racist language with his “Island of Strangers” speech and the continuing attacks on refugees, is paving the way for Reform UK to grow and become a serious threat in Britain.

The British government’s role in continuing to supply arms to Israel, giving cover for the genocide in Gaza and using anti-terror laws against Palestinian protestors is sickening.

Many people feel the need for a left alternative which stands against austerity, against racism, against increasing levels of wealth inequality and stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and with trans people. An alternative which argues for real action on climate change, improving workers rights and stands in solidarity with all those fighting back including workers like the Birmingham bin strikers who are taking action against pay cuts, imposed by a Labour council.

Over 700,000 people agree with this and in just over a week have signed up to the Your Party initiative.

Of course, there will be national meetings and conferences to decide the detailed structures and policies of the new party. But as Jeremy and Zarah have rightly said this new force needs to be shaped and led by the grassroots.

In that spirit, we would like to reach out to everyone in our area who shares our enthusiasm for the new party and try to bring people together.

We are certainly not pretending to be any sort of leadership - such questions will be for members to decide democratically as we move forward in building this new force nationally and locally.

We do, however, think it’s necessary to encourage people to begin to get to know each other and provide a space for initial discussions on what we should prioritise in our area and how we should begin to organise. The setting up of a Your Party - Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Facebook group , Instagram and Whatsapp is a positive step in giving a forum for discussion and organising.

The meeting will be introduced by our guest speaker Ian Hodson National President of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU).
