Event description
Small Park Big Run is going ahead this year! Covid means it will again be a virtual event instead of us being together in Meersbrook Park

About this event

Once again the uncertainty of the rules around COVID-19 have meant we have needed to alter our plans for the small park BIG RUN. Indeed our continued restricted movement brings some focus on the lives Palestinians have been leading for over 50 years.

Normally we would gather in the local park and try to ensure at least two people were running throughout a 24 hour period.

It has been such a wonderful community event both within Heeley and Meersbrook in Sheffield. But what makes this event special is that across in Gaza and the West Bank events are held there at the same time and these have been inspirational for us here in Sheffield and also, more importantly, for those Palestinians taking part too. So cancellation is not an option!

So, let's do the same this year as we did last year, when we raised over £8000:

We are again asking you to do something in your own home or garden with the people you live with - or local park, at safe distance from others - on the day when the run would have been.

Need inspiration?

Have a look at some of the amazing things people did last year and if you have facebook, catch up on the photos on our facebook page.

Please do tell us what you are doing, where you are and who you are with. Send a message of solidarity and let's make this a solstice to remember.

You can find out more about this year's run, and our chosen theme - health inequality - on our website

All profits will go to either the Sheffield Palestine Women's Solidarity Fund or to the Khu'zaa Healing project, as you choose. If you do not make a choice we will split the money 50/50. All organisers are volunteering. Please consider opting for the donation entry, if you can.

To sign up, click on the green REGISTER button above . You will have two choices:

If you are an Asylum Seeker or a Refugees or Unemployed please register for your ticket, which is free of charge.

We ask everyone else to purchase donation ticket. Please enter how much you wish to donate . We know these are hard times for everyone.  Please donate what you can afford. 100 per cent of your donations will go towards the projects we fund.

Thank you very much for taking part and helping fund these fantastic projects and importantly giving some hope to Palestinian people

What is involved in registering an activity?

You will be asked for some contact details, what you are planning and when (your activity can be anytime but we would like to encourage you do it between midday June 19th and midday June 20th). You will be able to give the names of other people who are involved.

Alternatively "registration" will be available after the 19/20 June so you can post-register and tell us what you did and how it went at the same time.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to organise an activity?

There are no minimum age requirements: these are your activities but we would like to remind you of the advice we have given previously for our 24-hour run:.

  • Anyone under the age of 11 must be accompanied by a parent/carer, who must have them in their sight at all times.
  • Anyone between the ages of 11 and 16 may run independently, but must have permission of a parent/carer, who must take responsibility for their well-being and safety.

We want to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone and include as many of the local community as possible. If you are having trouble making arrangements please contact us

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please email

We will try our best to answer you within 7 days

Can I update my registration information?

Yes. You can change any activity details and also this is the way we'd like you to tell us how it went.To edit your registration go to the "Order Summary" section of the email you received confirming you registration, click on "View and manage your order online " and login to Eventbrite.

Organiser small park BIG RUN

Organiser of Your small park BIG RUN 2021DIY activity - Be creative!

small park BIG RUN is organised by individuals from Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange (SPaCE), Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), Sheffield Palestine Women's Scholarship Fund and the local Meersbrook and Heeley community. Local groups participating in the organisation include Meersbrook Park Users Trust and Heeley Development Trust.

SPaCE is committed to promoting Palestinian culture in Sheffield by holding cultural events and, where possible, making live links with Palestinians. In ttandem with the small park BIG RUN we plan to organise a tandem run in Palestine.

The Sheffield Palestine Women's Scholarship Fund is a UK based charity set up in 2007 following a 2006 International Women’s Day Conference where a call was made to support women into education in Gaza. The Fund raises money for scholarships to pay the university fees of poor often refugee Palestinian women into higher education in the Gaza Strip. In 2017 41 women are being supported.

Sheffield PSC has been active in Sheffield since 1990s. It is a group committed to highlighting injustices suffered by Palestinian people. SPSC supports children's' projects in Gaza and funds play and educational facilties and, amongst other intiatives, a mobile library. More recently we have funded a trauma centre to help recovery from the psychological impact of war.
