Description

Ekphrasis: the use of visual art objects to stimulate poems. Poet, blogger and tutor, Martyn Crucefix, will introduce ways to do this – starting at Swindon Museum & Art Gallery, then lunch at the Richard Jefferies Museum followed by more writing!

The Swindon Collection of Modern British Art consists of around 600 works of art and 300 studio ceramics, made between 1880 and 2017 by artists who lived and worked in Britain. The art collection includes 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional material, but does not currently include film, large sculpture or installation. SM&AG works with the Art Fund and Contemporary Art Society to continue to acquire modern and contemporary works of art.

Transport can be provided to and from the Museum and Art Gallery to the Richard Jefferies Museum.

Includes vegan soup and bread for lunch followed by fresh fruits. Tea and coffee included.

Martyn Crucefix is a poet, critic, teacher, reviewer, translator and noted blogger on the art of poetry. He has won numerous prizes including a major Eric Gregory award and a Hawthornden Fellowship. He has published seven collections of poetry including Hurt (2010). His translation of Rilke’s Duino Elegies (2006) was shortlisted for the Popescu Prize for European Poetry Translation and hailed as “unlikely to be bettered for very many years” (Magma). He has also published a translation of Rilke’s The Sonnets to Orpheus (2012) and a new version of the Daodejing, in 2016.

An exceptional ear . . . superbly intelligent . . . urgent, heartfelt, controlled and masterful – Kathryn Maris, Poetry London
