What is the Friends of the Earth Youth Gathering?

A weekend filled with inspiring speakers, campaign workshops, nature walks and meeting new people passionate about climate, social and environmental justice.

Who is the Youth Gathering for?

Anyone aged 16-25 based in England, Wales and Northern Ireland who wants to be part of an environmental movement that is focused on being accessible and inclusive of everyone.

If you have been campaigning for years, already part of a group or are newly inspired to get involved with activism, this weekend is for you.

Our Youth Gathering is designed by young people for young people and our programme will be released shortly.

Ticket information

Tickets: Tickets pricing is on a sliding scale, please feel free to select a ticket price that reflects what you can afford.

Tickets include private en-suite rooms in university halls of residence and all meals from Friday dinner through to Sunday lunch time.

Tickets and transport costs are provided for anyone that is already part of the Young Friends of the Earth network.

Travel bursaries: Travel bursaries are available for people who are unable to cover the cost of their transport to the event. If you indicate on your booking you require a travel bursary we will contact you with a simple form to complete.

Young people: Under 16s are unfortunately not able to attend this event, though we look forward to welcoming you in a few years. 16 and 17 year olds can attend unaccompanied as long as we receive completed parent/guardian consent forms at least two weeks in advance of the event. We positively welcome young parents to our event but unfortunately we do not have a creche on site. If access to childcare would create a barrier to you attending the event, please note this in your booking and we will contact you to explore options.

Cancellations: Places are very limited and we want as many people to have the opportunity to attend our gathering. If you can no longer attend the event, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can give your place to somebody else. You can let us know via Eventbrite or by emailing with the subject line “Cancellation”.

Accessibility: The campus, main venue and accommodation are all wheelchair accessible.

The main venue includes a hearing loop and the accommodation includes aids for people that are deaf, hard of hearing and/or visually impaired. For detailed access information please visit We will be using the Chancellor's Building and Walter Moberly Building for the Gathering.

BSL interpretation will be provided, if requested.

Personal Assistants (PAs), support workers and carers are welcome to attend the event free of charge.

The Gathering has a dedicated breakout/quiet space and has actively considered the sensory needs of neurodivergent people.

Access needs and bursaries: We will work with you and (if appropriate) your parent/guardian to ensure this event is accessible and welcoming to you. We have access bursaries available to cover the costs of additional access needs, which can include (but is not limited to) hiring mobile hoists for wheelchair users and funding for a PA or support worker. Please let us know about any access requirements on the booking form or email (Youth Action Coordinator) with the subject line “Access Requirement” and we will get back to you ASAP.

Dietary needs: We are able to cater to most dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten free.

Cultural requirements: A designated prayer room is on site and our accommodation includes flats with both single and mixed gender options. All rooms within each flat are private with en-suites.

Our gathering is an LGBTQIA inclusive space. If you are under 18 years of age due to the venue's safeguarding protocol you may be assigned a gendered flat. If you would like to discuss this with a member of staff please add a note in your booking.

Covid-19 measures

Our Youth Gathering values protecting people who are clinically vulnerable to the impact of Covid-19 therefore we have decided to take the following approach with our Covid-19 measures:

  • Staff, volunteers and guests will be encouraged to conduct and show a negative LFT test within 24 hours of arrival;
  • Unless exempt, staff and guests will need to wear masks indoors unless eating/drinking;
  • Staff and guests will be encouraged to observe social distancing as much as possible;
  • Hand sanitiser will be available and it’s use encouraged; and
  • Ventilation will be maximised (doors/windows open, filtration on etc.).

If we are forced to cancel the event, we will reschedule with a free online event later in the year, which will be for young attendees across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
