Youth Justice SEND Workshops - various locations around the country
The number of young people with special educational needs in the youth justice system is disproportionately high : for some, their needs are so significant that EHCPs (Education Health and Care Plans) are in place to support them. These EHCP processes are enshrined in legislation that everyone in the youth justice system needs to apply on a daily basis. Statistics also suggest that a large number of young people with additional needs (such as Speech Language and Communication Needs) either have not had their needs formally identified and acknowledged, or the needs are not deemed significant enough to trigger an EHCP.
This national series of workshops will bring all professionals that work with and within Youth Offending Teams together with one purpose: to transform outcomes for children and young people in the youth justice system with SEND.
There will be opportunity to explore the key issues that are emerging from statistics and research, work in local area teams to identify areas of good local practice as well as areas that need development, then plan together to improve partnership working and impact.
Finally, all delegates and their teams will automatically be given access to a rich and comprehensive on-line learning environment, called the Youth Justice SEND Bubble, which will support further individual and group study, and cultural change.
