Youth-led Interventions: We Belong's Campaign Win
Event Information
About this event
We Belong have been campaigning for a shorter and more affordable route to citizenship for over four years. In October 2021, we heard the news that the Home Office will be removing the ten-year route to settlement for young people who came here as children and are fully integrated. This route will be replaced by a shorter five-year route. This is a major campaign win that impacts not just us but potentially over 330,000 children and young people with precarious status in the UK.
Our young people have spoken truth to power and built relationships with Immigration Ministers and Civil Servants during this time, as well as organising campaigns, and most importantly being strategic in the midst of the very hostile environment against migrants in the UK.
Join us on the 31st as we share key learnings and reflections on the following:
- Lived Experience expertise - our approach.
- Specific advocacy interventions- how we develop relationships with the Home Office and parliamentarians.
- Key learnings for the sector and funders.
Please register for this event here so that we know to expect your company and to keep you up to date.
Note: In spring we will be launching a report by We Belong's Comms Consultant, Fiona Bawdon. This will be an evaluation and analysis of the sequence of events and advocacy tools that led to the group achieving its primary campaign aim of a shorter, fairer, route to citizenship for young migrants who have grown up in the UK.
