Youth Mental Health First Aid (2 day)

An internationally recognised training programme designed specifically for those people that teach, work, live with or care for young people aged 8 – 18. By attending one of our Mental Health First Aid courses, you will learn to:

  • Spot the early signs of a mental health issue
  • Feel confident helping someone experiencing a mental health issue
  • Provide help on a first aid basis
  • Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others
  • Help stop a mental health issue from getting worse
  • Help someone recover faster
  • Guide someone towards the right support
  • Reduce the stigma of mental health issues

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches people how to identify, understand and help a young person aged 11—18 who may be developing a mental health issue. Developed in Australia in 2000 by Mental Health First Aid and now internationally recognised in 23 countries, In the same way as we learn physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health.

As the training is free we are unable to provide lunch, but you are welcome to bring your own or purchase some from shops near the venue. Before booking onto the course please read our Cancellation Policy below. Please be aware that the training is emotionally intense and deals frankly with mental health issues including suicide and psychosis.

Cancellation Policy

These training courses normally cost around £200-300 for a 2 day course, but are being offered free of charge by LCC Public Health. Because places are very limited, we do need to charge £50 per person or late cancellation and non-attendance. Please be aware that in order to complete the course and avoid this fee you will need to attend the full course. It will not be possible for you to leave early or miss a section of the delivery. Once you’ve booked onto the training, Please keep this date in your diary and arrange cover for any emergencies which might crop up.
