About this Event
Qualify as a Youth Mental Health First Aider and support for young people (8 – 18 years old) experiencing mental health issues.
This in-depth course, accredited by MHFA England, covers a range of mental health conditions experience by young people and techniques you can use to support children and young adults in distress.

NOTE: This course is delivered online via zoom through a combination of instructor led sessions (2.5 hours) and self directed learning (approx 1.5 hours) to be completed prior to and in between sessions.
Online sessions will take place at the following times:
Saturday 16th Jan 09:00 - 11:30 & 13:30 - 16:00
Saturday 23rd Jan 09:00 - 11:30 & 13:30 - 16:00
During the course, you cover topics such as recognising the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues, preventing issues, the Youth Mental Health First Aid action plan and promoting recovery.
The training will provide you with:
- An in-depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
- Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support
- Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive
- Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing
We will cover topics such as depression, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, psychosis and suicide.
Each delegate attending the course will receive:
- A certificate of attendance to say you are a Youth Mental Health First Aider
- A Youth MHFA manual to refer to whenever you need it
- A workbook including some helpful tools to support your own mental health
