Join Dorset Youth (DY) and Dorset Council at Weymouth College for our joint Youth Worker Training Day!
Tony Nye (Dorset Council) and Lilly Markwell (Dorset Youth) have taken on board feedback from youth workers and devised a 'one stop shop' of a range of training opportunities for you and your staff and volunteer team.
This event is FREE to attend, funded by Dorset Council & Dorset Youth.
The timetable for the day is as follows -

11:00 - 11:15 - BREAK

The following training is available to book:
E mergency first aid at work (6 hour workshop)
T his training looks at possible medical emergencies and how to deal with them, recognising types of medical emergencies, how to summon help and overall, this course offers insight to situations that could be life-dependent.
S uicide awareness (3 hour workshop):
This course will provide youth workers with knowledge and skills to help identify those vulnerable to suicide. You will leave the course with improved confidence, enabling you to support young people affected by suicide through effective, supportive, and compassionate intervention.
R esilience of youth workers (3 hour workshop):
Understand the significance of secondary trauma in your role as a youth worker. This course focuses on the elements needed to develop and maintain resilience in traumatic and challenging circumstances. You will understand and identify elements of the trauma tree, acknowledge the different stages associated with secondary trauma, and develop strategies to help manage the situation for yourself and others.
How to deliver a ‘Protect our environment print making’ activity at your youth club (length 3 hour workshop):
Discuss how to plan and deliver an activity using simple recycled materials to make a printing plate. Using the Collagraph technique, you will explore how to assemble shapes and textures to create unique prints that support and celebrate where we live.
An Introduction to Race Inequality Today – myth or reality in Dorset? (1.5 hour workshop)
This session will explore what equity, diversity and inclusion looks like in terms of race equality/race inequality and its impact on the lives of young people and youth projects
How Youth Projects can Address Race Inequality (1.5 hour workshop) - PLEASE NOTE – Anyone choosing this workshop must also choose the Introduction to Race Inequality Today workshop
This session will equip youth workers to ensure that their projects are truly inclusive and enable them to support all young people to understand and challenge race inequality
Introduction to Child Exploitation [1.5 hour workshop]
This workshop run by Escapeline provides a general awareness of Child Exploitation and County Lines. It is suitable for all levels of responsibility
Responding to Child Exploitation [1.5 hour workshop] PLEASE NOTE – Anyone choosing this workshop must also choose the Introduction to Child Exploitation workshop
Building on the introductory workshop, this workshop by Escapeline provides a more in depth understanding of Child Exploitation and County Lines, equipping those in positions of responsibility to respond appropriately. This session is only suitable for those with responsibility of running sessions or who are Designated Safeguarding Lead/Officer or Deputy
101 Ideas to do at youth club? (1.5 hour workshop)
Join this practical session to explore a range of suggestions of games and activities that you can run at your youth club. The chance to speak with other likeminded youth workers to share ideas and practice running some of these games. This session is aimed at new youth workers or those who looking for new ideas on what to run at youth club sessions.
