This one-day course is hosted on a blanket bog in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Part of the day will be spent indoors and part out on the bog, weather conditions depending.

Who should attend?

Peatland suveyors, restoration practitioners, ecologists, and those with an interest in botany. No previous qualifications are required, however some experience identifying plants using a botanical key is recommended.

What to bring/wear

Clothing suitable to spend time outdoors in wet and cold weather, including waterproof coat and trousers, and boots with ankle support.

Notepad & pen if desired for note taking.

Catering

Lunch is not included, and due to the isolated location all attendees must bring a packed lunch. Hot drinks are provided.

Accessibility

Participating fully in the course requires walking approx. 2km over boggy and uneven ground which is frequently steep, as well as climbing over 2 stiles. There is a toilet available. No under-18s. Please contact us if you have questions or access needs you would like to discuss.

By car

Please help us reduce traffic in the Dales by sharing lifts where possible. We can help arrange carsharing from Skipton - please indicate when booking if you're interested.

Parking

Parking at Nethergill Farm is very limited and not suitable for all vehicles. You will receive detailed instructions in advance of your course date.

Public transport

Nethergill Farm is not directly accessible by public transport. The nearest bus stop is Buckden, which is served infrequently by Dalesbus services. It may be possible to arrange lifts from Buckden, or YPP's office in Skipton - please contact us for more information.
