Welcome to Zen Men - Yoga Sessions for Men! Join us at the Threshing Barn at Green Croft Arts for a rejuvenating experience designed specifically for men.

Zen Men Walk & Yoga Social | The Threshing Barn

Liam's sessions offer a space for men to unwind and destress after a long week at work. Whilst also building strength and flexability to make you move with a little more ease throughout your day.

We will start with a gentle walk around the local area to warm ourselves up and get to know each other a little better. Then will return to the Threshing Barn for a one hour yoga session.

The sessions will combine teachings adapted from Ashtanga Yoga including yoga postures, breathwork and guided meditation.

First time Yogi? Or have a regular practice but want to learn more? The sessions are designed to be adabtable for wherever someone is on their yoga journey.

The Zen Men community is growing and it would be great to have join the crew!

Frequently asked questions

Why are these sessions only for men?

As a regular attendee to yoga classes I was struck by how few men also attended (it was normally only me!) I wanted to create a space that would feel inviting for men to practice in a way that felt accessible and enjoyable. I hope to foster a community focused on self-development and support.

I have never practiced yoga before. Can I come?

Of course! The sessions a designed to be adaptable to everyone's level of experience in Yoga. It is a very relaxed environment when lots of space to rest if needed. Liam is expertly trained to assist in adjustments to make any of the yoga poses more accessible for you.

I have a regular practice are these session going to be useful for me?

Yes. The sequence of postures will be repeated each week so you can get into your own personal flow with the class and then incorporate it into your practice. If you consider yourself more expert in Yoga I recommend we have a conversation about my 1-1 sessions where we can go at your desired pace.

I am not very flexible should I even do Yoga?

We do Yoga to become more flexible (said with a cheeky grin!) With Liam's classes we start from where we are and move from there. And the sessions' intention is put on to the practice not on how good we are doing. A little bit, done mindfully and slowly will go a LONG way.

I have a sore back. Will Yoga help?

It will indeed. Any sort of muscular pain caused by misalignment, workout, physical labour or excessive sitting will be eased and soothed by these sessions with Liam. They are designed to work every muscle in the body and develop them to prevent pain in the future.

I have some injuries should I come to Yoga?

You should always ask you to check with your GP to see if Yoga is suitable for you. Liam is qualified to support the recovery of the body and will adjust your practice where needed. However, if there is any serious concerns Liam may ask you to take a break from the session to prevent further injury.

Organised by

Zen Men

My name is Liam, the founder and teacher at Zen Men. I was trained by my teachers Martin and Fran Thompson who were in turn taught by Patabi Jois. My teaching is therefore rather traditional in its style. It has evolved into small, digestible vinyasas that focus on different sections of the body whilst honoring intuitive movement and emotional release. Whilst having a disciplined nature which allows me guide people to deeper levels of growth, I am able to do this with good humour and laughter. I believe in a high standard in my teaching as well with a student-centred focus.

The Mission

My mission with Zen Men is to open Yoga up to more men in the North-East. I want to break down pre-concieved ideas that it is just for women or that men cannot be flexible. I value the lessons that Yoga has taught me both about how to my body works but also how a steady mind and an open heart can allow for greater connections with people, environments and my experience through life.

The Sessions

My main aim is to teach the same class each week to promote flow with small variations and adjustments. Whilst also allowing people to learn a sequence they can practice whenever they wish throughout their life. Incorporated into these sessions are always breathwork and meditation which bring great benefits to everyday life.

The Community

I have a great belief in the goodness of community. I wish for Zen Men to be a hub for men to feel connected to other men in a genuine and heartfelt way whilst feeling supported by a community of likeminded individuals. The male orientated session would hopefully allow the fostering of brotherhood and support in male mental health. I would hope to expand the classes to men's workshops and sharing circles where we can all feel part of a community that is interested in each other's self-development.
