Zen, Science and the Cosmos - retreat day with Dr. Mark Kuren Westmoquette
Sat 6 May 2017, 11:15 – 17:00 BST
Until 2013, Mark was a research scientist in astrophysics, having worked with some of the world's largest telescopes including the Hubble Space Telescope. He is now a Zen teacher.
On this retreat day, Mark will touch on what science has to say about some of questions that arise when we look within – Who am I? Where am I from? Why is the Universe the way it is? What is its true nature? We will also explore the Avatamsaka (Kegon) sutra – one of the largest and most influential sutras within the Mahayana tradition that describes a cosmology of infinite realms upon realms, mutually containing and interpenetrating one another. Together we will explore the remarkable confluence between Zen, science and the cosmos.
The day will include zazen (sitting meditation) and a chance for sanzen (private interview) with Mark.
Please bring a cold vegetarian lunch to share. Tea will be provided.
