“A beautiful but terrifying sight” Zeppelins Over London – Autumn 1915
In May 1915, during the First World War, London was subject to attack from the air for the very first time when a German Zeppelin dropped bombs from Stoke Newington to Leytonstone. Another appeared in August 1915, leaving a trail of destruction from Walthamstow to Wanstead, but it was in autumn 1915, that the horror of aerial bombing finally reached the very centre of the city. Between 7 September and 13 October 1915, Zeppelin bombs killed almost 100 Londoners.
This is the story of that shocking month – 110 years ago. Relying heavily on original documents, brought to life with personal stories of those who experienced the raids, this illustrated talk explores the events in London when Zeppelins brought terror right to the heart of the capital.
