Event description

Description

This conference is one of the first public events run by Zero West – a collaborative project bringing together renewables developers, community groups, the four West of England local authorities, financers, lawyers, IT specialists, PR companies, and other interested parties.

We’ve set up Zero West because we think that to get to the scale the West of England region needs to go zero carbon we have to work faster, in a more joined-up way, and do low-carbon projects at a much larger scale than at present.

We’re mid-way through formalising our new venture, but in the meantime, here’s your chance to get involved at the outset!

Draft agenda for the day

9:30: Registration and refreshments

10:00: Welcome/housekeeping

- Why we're here
- How you can help
- Reasons to be cheerful

10:15: An introduction to the “Zero Carbon Britain” project by Paul Allen, Project Co-ordinator.

11:00: We’re already on the way to zero carbon
An introduction to some of the region’s existing great low-carbon projects on energy, food, transport and the built environment.

11:30: Break

11:50: The technical side of Zero West – targets and technologies
Our energy system is changing at a speed system no one expected just a few years ago. Not long ago England got its power from 50 large power stations. Now there are over 900,000 renewable energy installations across the country.

This session will feature cutting-edge research on how the West of England region could go zero carbon whilst balancing our needs for power, heating, transport, housing, food, and wellbeing.

12:45: Lunch – please make a donation.

1:30: Happy times ahead for Zero West
An introduction to the Happy City Initiative

1:45: Projects deep dive: An opportunity to:

- learn more about the low-carbon projects already underway in the region.
- tell others about the stuff you’re working on.
- pitch new ideas.

Themes will include:

Food
Transport
Renewables projects
Built environment/Energy efficiency
Data/smartgrids
Nature Connections
Public engagement / Campaigning and lobbying
Specific local projects

2:45: Break

3:00:
Round-up from the deep-dive session.
Next steps.
Launch projects for Zero West.

4:00: End

If you like this event, you'll probably like our other one the night before too. It's The Extraordinary Story of Human Beings, Energy, and Happiness.
