Thu 27 April 2017, 08:45 – 09:45 BST
Zhan Zhuang Qigong (pronounced Jam Jong Chi Kung and best translated as stand like a tree) is a Chinese energy exercise for self healing and recharging your batteries. The training programme is based on a series of static postures and gentle movements, which are suitable for all ages, abilities and lifestyles.
Qigong, also written Chi Gong or Chi Kung, literally translates into Energy Exercise. Zhan Zhuang is the qigong system with the longest tradition which can be traced back 27 centuries. It is the foundation of all qigong styles and is characterised by its great effectiveness and efficiency to help stimulate and balance the internal flow of Chi energy.
Through regular practice it can help: relieve stress, tension and anxiety; relax and calm the mind; improve posture, balance and co-ordination; improve circulation, develop strength, stamina and flexibility. Zhan Zhuang is an easily adaptable form of mind-body exercise that can be practiced any place and any time, without any special equipment.
The art is subtle and yet profound, simple in concept yet vast in detail. With personal practice you have the possibility to gain healing, stillness, happiness and joy.
