This is an advanced lecture series into the various aspects of conservation and research at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. The course will include information on local and global conservation as well as in situ and ex situ research. Sessions will be in the format of classroom based discussions and guest lectures.
The 8 week course will run every Tuesday from Tuesday 24th January 2017 - 21st March 2017 (excluding the half term break on the 14th February). The class will be held at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo at 13:30-15:00.
By the end of the course, participants will have:
Acquired knowledge of the conservation projects the RZSS is involved in.
The ability to discuss the wide range of research types undertaken by the RZSS.
The opportunity to discuss and form opinions upon ethical considerations in both research and conservation projects.
No prior knowledge is required, though this is aimed at previous participants with a basic understanding of the work of the RZSS. An interest/enthusiasm for animal biology or wildlife conservation would be an advantage. Participants should note that RZSS Edinburgh Zoo is situated on a hill and there will be a certain amount of standing and walking so participants who have any mobility problems should bear this in mind.
Note: You are welcome to explore the zoo either before or after the session.
