msdm [mobile strategies of display & mediation]
msdm [mobile strategies of display & mediation] a house-studio-gallery founded by artist-researcher-educator paula roush, serves as a collective platform for investigating the fluid entanglements of art, curation, and publishing. Its projects centre on place-based research through the lens of hydrofeminist 'new materialisms' and a decolonial perspective, leveraging emerging technologies and relational methodologies. The goal is to craft a narrative of transitional design that moves us towards an equitable and ecologically just future.
Advancing a pluriversal approach to publishing, we envision the book as mobile space for display and mediation. Through msdm Publications' latest projects— Follow Y/Our River, liquid memories~to read with water, Wide Load: A House Moved —we developed multi-authored books that are participatory experiences, inviting readers to engage in open dialogue with multi-layered portraits of being and place.
The core activities of msdm encompass the creation of publications, installations, and workshops, making it a transdisciplinary platform for artistic research. Noteworthy among our initiatives is the Page-turnercollective distinguished by its peer-to-peer network. This approach serves as a robust support system for artists in the development of their self-publishing practices.
