The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum is where the literary legend was born in 1885. Only 30 minutes from Nottingham city centre, the Museum is a must see for fans of literature and for those wanting to delve deeper into Nottingham's literary heritage.

Growing up in late Victorian industrial England, in the mining community of Eastwood, Lawrence surpassed all expectations of a miner's son and went on to become one of the greatest writers of the 20th century.

To some he is simply the infamous author of Lady Chatterley's Lover, but to many others he is a powerful and challenging creative voice, from the changing world of the early 20th century.

The house itself is an authentically restored late Victorian working-class home, full of original artefacts and offering an immersive step back in time for visitors. As well as the atmospheric historic rooms of the original house, the museum includes a gallery, exhibition rooms, a picnic area and a gift shop.

There is a D.H. Lawrence Trail which takes you through the town of Eastwood (free trail maps available in the gift shop), and for those who enjoy walking, the museum is the gateway to the delightful local countryside, which Lawrence called "The country of my heart".
