Topaz M. Terry, Lead Sewing Instructor

  • Creative Reuse & Upcycling Consultant
  • Founder, Amend+Adapt Sewing Studio
  • Board President, DC Makers’ Guild

I’m a Creative Reuse & Upcycling Consultant working at the intersection of technical fabrication, sustainable design, and maker-led innovation.

With a background spanning education, theatre production, and hands-on fabrication, I’ve built a deep technical skillset rooted in advanced sewing, material literacy, and adaptive reuse. I specialize in solving complex material challenges by helping makers, artists, and creatives rethink waste streams, refine fabrication processes, and build durable, thoughtful products.

As the founder of Amend+Adapt Sewing Studio, I teach sewing and material problem-solving while developing upcycled and handcrafted goods. My product line, BicycleTrash, began as an experiment in transforming overlooked materials into functional design, and continues to inform my practice today.

In addition to my studio work, I serve as Board President of the DC Makers’ Guild, where I focus on strengthening infrastructure, opportunity, and sustainability within the local maker ecosystem.

If you’re interested in working with unconventional materials or sustainable fashion, check out my studio.
