Ishariah Johnson aka stormskater

Award winning Ishariah Johnson, known as Storm Skater, was born in Camberwell on 16 December 1988 and she grew up in Deptford, South London.

Her parents made sure Ishariah had an understanding of community and fitness. Her father is a thai kickboxing expert and he taught her, her family and the community, how to train and learn martial arts, in his martial arts club in Deptford.

Ishariah started rollerskating aged 8 years old. Her dad and uncle were hyde park and harrow (UK) skaters from the 80s and 90s era, and for one of her birthdays her dad got her skates, and her uncle gave her her first rollerskating lessons outside the front of the block of flats she lived at. For the next few summers Ishariah would skate to youth clubs and down hill, before moving on to inlines, purchased by her mum. Ishariah wasnt a fan and for the next ten years she dreamed of returning to rollerskating.

In her teens, a friend invited her to a skating event to spy on a boyfriend, and that was the start of her skating addiction. For the next year she was dedicated and practiced for 365 days straight, which is where Storm Skater was born, and in her first year she was in music videos for Big man Zest, Gracious K and Tim Westwood, where she invited her friends from the skating scene and communities she was a part of.

Years later, Storm was auditioning and working and skating in private night clubs such as Maggie's and Disco and cast for her first ad with H&M x Balmain, starring Kendal Jenner. In the same year she went to Atlanta for skate-a-thon skate party hungry to immerse herself in to the skate scene.

She went on to feature in Apple, McDonalds, Oneplus, Dacia and Stage work for Brixton Electric, then starred in more ads with Boots, EDF energy, and Greggs.

She began to freelance in 2018, teaching people how to skate and during the Covid pandemic in 2020 she created Stormskater academy and went on to teach people how to skate and spin online.

In 2020 she created a short self titled film "stormskater" where she describes her ambition and love for rollerskating and the film went on to win the Best Sport Film award at the 2021 Kendal Film Festival.

For the past 30 years rollerskating hasn't been taken serious, or even seen as a sport, so for stormskater to win best sport film is a cultural reset and an amazing achievement.

Stormskater has always been told there is no such thing as a pro rollerskater and she's happy and proud to have proved people wrong.

In 2021 she manifested meeting Nile Rodgers for the second time and her and friends were invited to his private birthday party in the Ministry of Sound - the first of its kind.
