Hello everyone, I'm Alice Hastie.

I am an independent Access to Work Adviser - I help claimants, support workers and employers to understand and navigate the Access to Work scheme. Access to Work is a UK government scheme designed to help disabled people overcome the extra barriers that they face at work. The scheme can provide grants for (among other things) specialist equipment and software, help with travel to and from work, coping strategies coaching and support workers.

This work is incredibly important to me because I had to leave my employed career at the Environment Agency due to ill health - at the time neither me nor my managers were aware of the extra support that Access to Work could have given. I didn't work for five years but with support from Access to Work I've been able to set up my own business where I work in a way that fits my needs as a disabled person.

I help people primarily through one-on-one advice sessions. However I also run talks/workshops and manage two free Facebook communities, one for claimants and the other for support workers (and other Access to Work professionals).
