Aja Ireland
Aja Ireland is an award winning sound and performance artist merging visceral electronics, club culture and immersive visual worlds. Her work has been featured in Vice, FACT, The Guardian, BBC, among others, with DAZED describing her practice as being “like an exorcism wrapped in trash aesthetics…a joyful and terrifying assault on the senses.”. Across three UK and European tours, she has delivered uncompromising live shows at festivals and institutions including SXSW London, CTM, Berghain, Sonic Acts and FOLD. In 2018, she received the PRS Oram Award for innovation in sound and music and was a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Composers nominee in 2022.
As an educator and mentor with over 8 years’ experience, Aja teaches experimental sound design, artistic development and mental health and wellbeing. Working as a trainer at Ableton, lecturer at Confetti and Nottingham Trent University, and facilitator at Harmless; she has delivered more than 150 workshops and lectures across the UK and Europe.
Aja creates nurturing learning environments drawing on experience supporting LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent participants. Her sessions help people explore sound, build confidence and develop sustainable approaches to work and wellbeing.
