Aris Komporozos-Athanasiou is Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Social Theory. He joined UCL's Department of Social Science in January 2017 form King's College London where he was Post-doctoral Research Fellow. Aris gained his PhD at the University of Cambridge for work investigating the interaction of civic movements with state bureaucracies. His research spans political, economic and organisational sociology; it explores the role of civil society in the articulation of alternative imaginaries, discourses and practices of organizing, especially in the context of economic crises and austerity policies. 

Aris' work has appeared in international peer-reviewed journals such as Sociology, British Journal of Sociology, Public Administration and Organization Studies. Aris is currently working on a book monograph on the Dialectics of Imagination. 

Aris is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a member of the American Sociological Association, and the British Sociological Association. At UCL he is co-lead of the Social Theory Research Group, and the convener of the 'Citizenship, social imagination and collective action' Research Seminar series.
