Arts 4 Dementia (registered charity 1140842) was set up to signpost by website and to develop arts activities to stimulate and re-energise people living with dementia in the community and their carers. Our initial pilots have been successfully completed and evaluated. Arts 4 Dementia at the Wallace Collection, eight weekly themed tours, is being repeated and used for training; and participants in our poetry and communication sessions led by Susanna Howard of 'Living Words, "Empowerment through Story"' at Putney Library, are keen to continue. This will be one of our thirteen pilot projects which will take place at arts venues around London, covering art, comedy, dance, drama, music, photography and poetry.
The Arts 4 Dementia Best-Practice Conference will establish guidelines for arts venue outreach for people living with dementia and their carers; with keynote speeches by Harry Cayton OBE, Chief Executive, Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence and by Baroness Greengross OBE, Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia.
The conference organiser Veronica Franklin Gould, Chief Executive of Arts 4 Dementia, organised the Watts Gallery centenary exhibitions, establishing the educational and funding partnerships that laid the foundations for their major funding campaigns.
