Barry Allan Scott

Barry Allan Scott is a professional artist and educator with a Fine Art degree from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and an MFA from the University of Maryland, USA. His artistic practice spans drawing, painting, and sculpture, and he has been recognised with the Mitchell Prize for Painting (DJCAD) and the David Driskell Award for excellence in studio practice and teaching (UMD).

Barry has undertaken artist residencies in the United States, including the Vermont Studio Center and the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, where he worked alongside renowned artists such as John Torreano, Arnold Mesches, and Kerry James Marshall. He also spent time as a sculpture assistant to American artist Joan Danziger.

After many years teaching at colleges near Washington DC, Barry returned to Perthshire to be closer to family. Since then, he has taught art classes locally — offering both supportive group sessions and focused one-day workshops — while also running a specialist picture framing studio alongside Craigrossie Printing. His workshop caters especially to artists and printmakers, with a focus on giclée prints and archival materials.

Barry accepts portrait, landscape, and design commissions, working primarily in oils and pastels. He is known for his detailed animal portraits and expressive, layered technique. Alongside commissions, Barry continues to pursue his personal work — often rooted in nature and imagination, and carrying a distinct surreal quality.
