Macclesfield’s historic ‘Beating the Bounds’ walk returns: A family-friendly fundraiser

Macclesfield, Cheshire – Sunday 21st September 2025 – A beloved tradition is set to return to Macclesfield this summer as the historic ‘Beating the Bounds’ walk makes its comeback to raise funds for six local charities. This family-friendly event, which traces the boundaries of the town, was a staple of the community calendar in the 1980s and is being revived by Verity Shuttleworth in memory of her father who passed away in March this year due to a brain tumour. The walk holds personal significance for Verity, who first participated in the event at the age of six.

“Beating the Bounds was a cherished part of my childhood and a way to connect with our community,” she said. “For me personally, bringing back this local tradition will be a befitting tribute to my father and his love for Macclesfield. But more importantly it bring our community together and support local charities that need our help now more than ever.
