Established in 2002, Bloc Projects is an artist-led contemporary arts organisation occupying a former industrial building in the centre of Sheffield. We provide a platform for early to mid career artists to develop new work in dialogue with audiences and partners in the city and beyond. We welcome a large and diverse annual audience into our space through exhibitions, screenings, performances, publicly sited works, talks, education activities and professional development opportunities. In this way we aim to further the development of contemporary art in the city of Sheffield for the benefit of artists and the public.

We offer exhibition and commission opportunities to early career artists and contextualise this new work to give access to the broadest possible audience. In this way we aim to raise the profile of contemporary visual artists and the work they produce and advance the education of the public in the subject of contemporary visual art.

Bloc Projects has a reputation for presenting high quality contemporary visual art across a broad disciplinary and contextual spectrum and supporting artists at crucial points in their careers, enabling career progression and sustainability for artists. Bloc Projects acts as as a hub for the professional development of promising early career artists, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration, and supporting the local and regional cultural ecology. By working on strategic partnership projects, such as those with universities and festivals, we increase the scope of what we are able to offer artists in terms of research resources, specialist knowledge, space and facilities, and access to communities of interest.
