Caring Kits for Kids

As a charity we fundraise and put together backpacks to support hospitals in providing comfort and dignity to children, young people and mothers.

Thirty-seven thousand children and young people enter care every year and unfortunately many will find themselves in hospital for a child protection medical check, with few belongings or familiar faces. At Caring Kits for Kids, we recognised that providing a backpack with some ‘home comforts’ would make that transition into the next stage of a young person’s life that bit easier. We later expanded the project to meet the needs of increasing numbers of expectant mothers arriving at hospital with no belongings to care for themselves or their new-born baby. Alongside supporting vulnerable people during their time in hospital, we hope to relieve hospital staff of the burden, both emotional and financial, of providing these items themselves.

Every penny that you donate goes towards the charity’s mission of providing a rucksack and everything that a child or new mother would need for 24 hours in hospital. All items are brand new, as many children have not had new things to call their own before. We aim to to provide these items through a sustainable and ethical supply chain to reflect our values.

Our hope is to arrange a range of events through Eventbrite, the most frequent of which will be the shopping and packing required to put the kits together. Participants at events that have agreed to fundraise on behalf of the charity can also register here.
