Chameleon Productions
Chameleon is a fearless exposé of life as a recently diagnosed autistic woman
living beyond the spectrum whilst navigating a new relationship. It follows its
heroine on her journey of self-discovery as she is launched headfirst into an
identity crisis. Drawn in by her boyfriend’s intoxicating charm, she is sucked into
a whirlwind of awkward dates, terrible techno music and mounting pressure to
meet his ever-rising expectations. With each new social interaction, she feels
doomed to fail — will it always be this complicated? Then: an enigmatic
stranger at a bizarre costume party - unapologetic, hilarious, neurodivergent
and, above all, themselves. As Chameleon becomes more confident, her
boyfriend becomes more oppressive. She must decide whether blending into a
neurotypical world is worth destroying herself.
Chameleon will be presented at The Glitch for a 1-week
run. Written and directed by Jess Telling, Chameleon investigates the limits of
social responsibility by breaking the fourth wall of traditional theatre and
involving the audience directly in advocating for accessibility. It explores the
turbulence of her ND experience with dry humour, techno beats and the triumph
of embracing one’s true colours in the face of adversity. Chameleon was at
Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024, it received 2 4* reviews from EdFringeReview,
featured on BBC Upload and BBC Radio Manchester, and was nominated for
the Actually Autistic Award by Neurodiverse Review.
