Chitra Soundar
Chitra Soundar is an internationally published, award-winning author of over 50 books for children. She is also an oral storyteller and writer of many things. Chitra writes picture books, short stories and fiction for young readers. Her stories are inspired by folktales from India, Hindu mythology and her travels around the world. Chitra has written and performed story theatre for children. She also writes short stories, poetry, comedy sketches and political satire as C IYENGAR.
Chitra is active in the UK children’s publishing world supporting new writers and writers of colour. She has created The Colourful Bookshelf, a curated list of children’s books written/illustrated by creators of colour. Before the pandemic, she travelled across the world to promote her books and run creative writing workshops in schools. She has performed at international and regional literary festivals across the world – Emirates, Jaipur, Houston, Hay, Cheltenham amongst others
