Community, Youth and Play Workers in Unite

Community, Youth and Playworkers in Unite was formerly the Community and Youth Workers’ Union (CYWU) and now a section of Unite the union, the biggest trade union in the UK and Ireland. As part of the Community, Youth Workers and Not for Profit Sector, our members are either working or training to work with children, young people and communities in statutory or voluntary settings.

  • To promote and defend Youth work, Community work, Playwork and allied professions.
  • To submit continuous critical analysis on policy developments affecting Youth, Community, Playwork and allied professions.
  • To defend the jobs, status and protect the rights of and gain the best salaries and conditions of employment for youth, community and play workers.
  • To retain the Pink Book JNC National Agreement for the Community and Youth Workers.
  • To organise those workers working directly with children, young people and adults in the community in order to promote the employment welfare of Youth, Community, Playwork and allied professions.
  • To campaign for changes in institutions affecting young people and their communities.
  • To promote member involvement through branches, workplaces and in the community to defend and protect youth and play services.
