Connected Health Cities (CHC)

The Connected Health Cities (CHC) programme is the result of a ‘Northern Powerhouse’ bid to HM Treasury. That bid was led by the The Northern Health Science Alliance Ltd (NHSA). The NHSA is “a partnership established by the leading Universities and NHS Hospital Trusts in the North of England to improve the health and wealth of the region by creating an internationally recognised life science and healthcare system.”

The member institutions in the North East and North Cumbria are:

* Newcastle University* Durham University* The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS FT* South Tees Hospitals NHS FT* The AHSN for the North East and North Cumbria

The emerging requirements and opportunity of the CHC initiative have been discussed at the February and July Board meetings.

The CHC Programme seeks to integrate data across primary, secondary and social care. It will develop capability in the analysis and use of these integrated data sets in provider, commissioning, public health and ultimately wealth creation applications. CHC offers the potential for the creation of a game-changing regional asset, if this can be achieved with the support of the citizens of the region.
