Shilpi Gupta, founder of Creative Lab, is a scientist and science communicator with a deep passion for art. A keen observer and intuitive creator, she discovered her love for urban sketching, finding inspiration and a vibrant community in the process. As Secretary of Urban Sketchers, she encourages others to explore the art of on-location sketching. Her favourite medium, watercolour, stands out for its fluidity and versatility, making it ideal for capturing the spontaneity of urban scenes. With a teaching style that is approachable and engaging, she creates a relaxed, supportive environment where beginners feel empowered to experiment and find their artistic voice. Beyond sharing the joy of creating art, Creative Lab is her way of fostering a safe space for connection, bringing people together to inspire and build meaningful relationships through creativity. For her, art is meditative and joyful—a way to celebrate colours, moments, and connections—and she invites others to share in this experience.
