Devil’s Botany is the UK's first Absinthe distillery, celebrating the forgotten elixirs of London's curious past.
Founded in January 2021 by Directors of The Last Tuesday Society, the inspiration for Devil’s Botany arose from a curious elixir discovered in the recipe books of London’s 18th century apothecaries. Nearly a century before the first commercial absinthe distilleries opened elsewhere in the world, London’s dram-drinkers were already enjoying an example of absinthe made by the city’s apothecaries. Sold under the pretence of magic and medicine, the absinthe of London was prescribed as an aperitif and praised for its ability to raise one’s spirits.
