Douglas Macmillan Hospice or the Dougie Mac as we are known locally has been providing care and support to adults and families faced with a life limiting illness in the North Staffordshire area for over 40 years. Our aim is to give every person care, comfort and dignity during their final days. Each person we support has someone to turn to with our team of consultants, nurses, social workers, chaplain and bereavement counsellors. We also offer those small creature comforts that can make such a difference such as home cooked meals; beautiful gardens; nurses to visit you in your own home; art classes; massage and reiki; pain relief; daily spiritual services; and the chance to meet other people in the same situation. These are just a small number of ways we keep a person as well as possible for as long as possible. All these services are completely free to our patients and families and are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Currently we need to raise in excess of £11 million each year to maintain the level of care which we provide. 75% of this money is raised from the fundraising efforts or generous donations of local supporters.
