Lecturer in Social Sciences

I am a Sociologist with significant industry experience within the charity sector and education. I have been, and I'm currently, active in the Third Sector for over fifteen years in a range of roles from charity and volunteer management at operational and senior level, fundraising, campaigning and community development work. I have also worked in youth projects and taught in secondary schools as a former Head of Religion and Philosophy and in HE colleges as an Access Course Tutor and Foundation Degree Leader.

I studied for a BSc (Hons) Sociology and Social Research and an MSc Social Research at Northumbria University, as well as an MA Gender Studies at Newcastle University. I am currently studying a part-time PhD at the University of Leeds exploring the life histories of older people living with HIV. I am primarily interested in the lived experiences of people living with HIV and AIDS as well as LGBTQI+ identities and human rights in light of global homophobia and oppression. My other research interests include global health and global issues as well as the role of the Third Sector and volunteering.
