Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society
The Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society welcomes a wide range of people with a common interest in all activities relating to archaeology. The Society undertakes and records responsible investigation of many unscheduled historical sites, using careful excavation techniques, geophysics, fieldwalking, finds’ processing and research. Results are written up and most are published.
We provide excavation training for volunteers of all ages and abilities, a winter lecture programme and outings for members. Joining the Society is affordable and, importantly, fun, and working in the open air with our friendly group has health and social benefits for everyone.
We hold Open Days with guided tours of sites and family events, during which adults and children have the opportunity to dig.
At present the main focus of the Society’s activity is at Cammo Country Park, owned by the City of Edinburgh Council. We are uncovering the remains of the buildings and walled garden, working in cooperation with the City of Edinburgh and Friends of Cammo to enhance the park area for all visitors.
