Emily Utter

Emily Utter is a Canadian prose writer based in Aberdeen. Much of her work focuses on family narrative, trauma, and memory, and often features rural or remote communities in both Canada and Scotland. She has published flash fiction, short stories, novel extracts and creative non-fiction in Scotland, Canada, and the United States. 

Emily is a Writer-in-Residence at Roxburghe House in Aberdeen. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Aberdeen, and is an Honorary Fellow of the WORD Centre for Creative Writing. She is also a member of the Aberdeen Writers' Studio. 


Emily has organised and facilitated events for Book Week Scotland, the University of Aberdeen, RAS Aberdeen, and Aberdeen City Council.
