Emma is a textiles tutor and artist who specialisies in making felt. She has over fifteen years expereince teaching, designing and making felt for her award winning textilies company, Silversoles. She taught as the resident textile artist at the Midlands Arts Centre (mac) for ten years prior to the closure and then setting up and restablisihing the textiles programme for five years after the rebuild. Emma teaches a range of textiles processes and techniques including feltmaking, screenprinting, embroidery, batik, devore and mixed media with individuals and groups. Her depth of knowledege and extensive practice has seen her undertake residences in primary and secondary schools, deliver courses at FE and HE level, and offer student placements and CPD for art teachers in addition to offering recreational cources for all ages, guilds and socities.
She exhibits and sells her work at contemporary craft fairs and galleries throughout the UK. Her work has featuerd at notable galleries such as The British Museum, Ferrers Gallery, and New Brewery Art and Art in Action. Emma has undertaken a number of commisions for private and public clients, a recent example is the High Alter Cloth and Side Chapel alter cloths at St Martins' in The Bull Ring, Birmingham. Along with Melanie Keevil she has established and runs the sucessful annual Open Studio event, Made in Kings Heath.
The workshops advertised here will take place in Emma's home studio in South Birmingham with small groups of no more than four. Please note: the studio is situated in a garden landscape with one step up for access to the building.
