Expedition Workshed

The Expedition Workshed contains a collection of free, high quality stuff to help people learn about civil and structural engineering.

There is plenty of online material about engineering and even more buried in libraries, filing cabinets and hard drives across the world. There is so much stuff that the biggest challenge is usually finding your way to the really good, useful bits.

Our idea is to pull together and produce material of really high quality and make it available through a first class website aimed at teachers and engineering students world wide. We hope that this will help and inspire students to become the engineers that society needs to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

Of course it will take some time and considerable effort but as a great man once said every journey starts with a single step. Our first few steps include interactive structural models, videos of material failure, archive material about great engineering projects, interviews with the best engineers of our era, build it yourself kits and examples of practicing engineers sketching and drawing.

The original idea and most of the investment have come from Expedition Engineering, a London-based firm of civil and structural engineers. We work closely with universities to ensure that what we are doing is indeed useful and welcome. Many others, including engineering institutions and companies from around the world, have also made significant contributions.
