Friends of Sydney Gardens

The Friends of Sydney Gardens (FoSG) are a locally active community group: formed in November 2013, with an aim to support this historically significant Georgian Garden. The Friends liaise with the local community and encourage volunteers to get involved with their park.

Additionally, the Friends support and are committed to the Gardens in a variety of ways. They undertake biweekly community gardening sessions and offer free Historical Guided Tours of the gardens each month. Additionally, they have a committed group of volunteers who collect litter in the gardens most days of the week and at the weekends.

The Friends have also created a Tree Trail, selecting special trees in Sydney Gardens for the leaflet. A hard copy of the Tree Trail is available in the park but if stocks have runout and you have a suitable phone use the QR code on the FoSG notice board to download the Tree Trail app to your phone.

In 2018 Bath and Northeast Somerset Council applied for Heritage Lottery funding for which a local support group was required to be in place, the FoSG took on this roll. In Jan 2019 the fantastic news was received; Sydney Gardens had been awarded £2.7m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) for the regeneration of this significant Georgian Pleasure Garden. FoSG represented the views of the local community and played an important part in the regular Steering Group meetings.

The Friends produce a Newsletter twice a year with a print run of 2500 copies which are hand deliver to the local community. The friends also send out by email, quarterly news updates to all members of the FoSG. Please follow us on Facebook, twitter, and Instagram to get our latest news.
