About Hull Medical Society
Founded in 1889, the Hull Medical Society is a registered, non-political charity with its base at the East Riding Medical Education Centre. Its core purpose is the advancement of medicine through the reading and discussion of papers, and the communication of clinical and other medical insights.
While its programmes contain a strong educational component, the Society has always placed emphasis on providing a welcoming, informal environment where members can connect across specialties and disciplines. This approach fosters collegiality and strengthens the local medical community.
Aims of the Society
The Society is committed to:
- Providing informal support and mentorship for newly appointed colleagues
- Encouraging professional networking to promote knowledge exchange and collaborative research
- Supporting the holistic development of junior colleagues
In recent years, the Society and its members have actively contributed to the development of the Hull Postgraduate School of Medicine and the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). It continues to support HYMS medical students through elective and intercalated degree bursaries and also sponsors a junior doctor football team to encourage wellbeing and camaraderie.
