IUCN and Mexican Protected Areas Commission (CONANP)

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) manages the IUCN Green List, a new standard for protected area conservation in the 21st Century.

The Mexican Government, as the host of the COP 13 / CBD, is showcasing the collaboration between the Mexican Protected Areas Commission (CONANP) and IUCN in developing a Green List programme in Mexico, through this event. Tulum National Park and Sian Ka'an World Heritage Area will help CONANP, IUCN and partners to share their riches and values, and present their Green List experiences alongside those of Colombia, Vietnam, China, Spain, Peru, Benin, Kenya, Jordan, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Australia and other participating countries.

IUCN's Green List is supported by the German Government's Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Building, and Nuclear Safety, through the 'Protected Area Solutions' project their International Climate Initiative (IKI). IUCN has also received generous support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility, through the IPAS project; by the Korean National Park Service; Junta De Andalucia, Spain; French Development Agency AFD; Ministry of Environment, Japan; KfW - the German Development Bank (Benin); and through the pilot phase launch at the IUCN World Parks Congress, and beyond, with support from Parks New South Wales, Australia.
