Julian Roberts is a UK fashion designer and academic, born in 1971 in South Wales. He currently lives on the south coast of England UK. Since 1998 Julian has developed his own internationally recognised method of garment cutting called ‘Subtraction Cutting’ that he has taught in over 37 countries.
Julian showed 13 collections during London and Paris Fashion Weeks between 1998-2007 under the label names Nothing Nothing and JULIANAND, receiving the ‘New Generation Award’ from the British Fashion Council five times. In 2020 Julian relaunched 'Nothing Nothing2' in collaboration with his partner Georgian fashion designer Mari Bendeliani, making unique one-off pieces for galleries in Berlin and Tokyo. Mari Bendeliani is a fashion graduate of the Tbilisi State Academy of Art and Design, and a Subtraction Cutting master.
Julian Roberts is Tutor for Graduate Diploma in Art & Design at the Royal College of Art in London, and lectures internationally with a particular focus on fashion making and cross-disciplinary approaches to design.
