Kate Hoey & Kemi Folarin


In 2007, aged 22, Kemi Folarin started Young People Matter Charity (YPM). Having never ran a charity before she began with a simple aim: To nurture the potential of young people by providing them with a safe and supportive environment. From its humble beginnings, YPM now provides: After School Clubs, Half Term and Holiday Clubs, Youth Club Nights, Away Residentials, Youth Leadership Programs, Workshops in Schools and a raft of exciting Intergenerational Community projects to 130+ children and young people across Lambeth on a weekly basis.

YPM also employs a team of 27 Full and Part-time staff, working across the Borough.

In February 2017, Young People Matter Charity turned 10yrs Old!


Kemi and YPM have been the recipients of numerous Awards, Nominations and Accolades including:

2014 Best Playwork Team - Nominees, National Playwork Awards
2012 Youth Partnership - Highly Commended, Race for Opportunity, Business in the Community Awards
